Through the Alps and Dolomites

Let’s go!

It was a bit of a haul from the house to the hotel outside of Vienna. We got up at 6am MT Saturday and went to bed at noon on Sunday Denver time, essentially. It was 10pm here in Austria. Other than me losing my prescription glasses and most of my contacts at some point on the trip to Europe, yup I’m a bit blind at night now, (UPDATE: found the bag of glasses and contacts in a pocket that I didn’t check, because I rarely use it.) everything went well. Luckily I have a good connection to replacement contact lenses and a FedEx account. Thanks, Mom. The bikes are all set and ready to go. Though, I’m a bit concerned about some bolt heads that are getting stripped after the last four years of my hackery as a mechanic. Should be good for this trip, I’ll have to get some replacement bits when I get home.

It was good to see a few friendly faces from our last trip and we’re stoked to be able to ride with them all again. There was a group of about 10 we joined for dinner at a Greek restaurant in the main town near the hotel, Baden. Dare you to read German in Greek. Then we capped the night off with some delicious gelato, the Nutella was the bomb. Kristin had her beloved Malaga, also known as rum and sultanas. Basically a shot of rum, some ground up raisins and gelato.

The weather here is a bit warm and breezy, but things look good for the next few days on the bikes. We’re getting set now to head out and get an easy spin in before the real deal begins tomorrow. If there’s time one of us will do a short post tonight from the day.
